Northwestern FCA Provides Connection and Fellowship

By Jensyn Siebrecht

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a group for young high school athletes, gets together every Wednesday morning to discuss faith and how it affects their play on the court or field. The weekly meeting starts off at 8:00 A.M. every Wednesday morning with a verse or scripture. They then talk about what it means and how it can affect their day-to-day life or relationship with their sport.

Seniors Lincoln Woodring, Tyanne Osterkamp, Nathan Melius and junior Nicolette Nickeson lead the group every week.

“FCA kind of has helped me throughout the years with sports and being a leader in school by keeping me humble and around a majority of people I usually don’t get to be around, such as my younger classmates and the girls from the girls’ teams, just kind of helps me be around people I’m not around and kind of connect with them,” Melius said.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, FCA held a breakfast for the athletes in the Green gym lobby prior to the start of school to encourage others to join. Mrs. Denise Clemens and Mr. Doug Duncan advise the group.

“I try to be the best leader I can, and it kind of gives me a nice restart each week,” Melius said.
