Northwestern School celebrated homecoming Sept. 25-29 with a holiday theme.

The Wildcats started the week off with the Fourth of July (‘Merica Monday), dressing up in red, white, and blue to celebrate our independence while cross country ran in Miller.

On Tuesday, the students celebrated Christmas early while wearing Santa hats, Christmas pajamass, or shirts, or just green and red while that night the volleyball team defeated Redfield. The dodge ball tournament winners included Adriana Ratigan, Jessica Christ, Bradyen Satter, Natalia Schipke, Patrick Olson, and Cole Caulder, while the junior class defeated the senior class in the high school class dodge ball tournament.

Students dressed up for Redneck Wednesday in anything like jeans, button ups, and cowboy hats while FFA competed in land judging in Wessington Springs.

On Thursday, students got ready for the beach, started float building, and crowned homecoming queen Tyanne Osterkamp and king Dustin at coronation. Afterward, the girls played powderpuff football game and burned the N.

Going into Friday, Northwestern School filled with school spirit, while students completed float building, and the boys played volleyball with senior Country Decker’s team winning. After that, the cheerleaders put on a nice show at the pep rally, dancing with a staff member of their choosing.

Next, two people from each grade, starting from 6th, two staff members, and two senior parents were chosen to try to pick five gummy worms out of whip cream with their mouths while the other one counts how they grabbed, the juniors, Adriana Ratigan and Ali Wilkins-Walter won.

Students and community members enjoyed a barbecue feed at the community center prior to the parade. After the parade, the Herreid/Selby defeated the football team 53-0. The week ended with a homecoming dance in the gym. To recover from the long week, students and staff will have pajama day on Monday, Oct. 2!
