Senior Madalyn Groft received December Student of the Month. Daughter of James and Nora Groft, Madalyn’s siblings include Isaac, Peyton and Samuel.
A four-sport athlete (volleyball, cross country, track, and basketball), Madalyn also participates in band, choir, journalism, Future Business Leaders of America and club volleyball. She takes her favorite class, AP Calculus, online through Northern State University with Mary Cundy and Amanda Fa’onelua.
Her hobbies include playing volleyball and watching Netflix.
A true teacher's kid, Madalyn has never missed a day of school.
“She was in state cross country, she was a part of the state volleyball team, and was all-tournament team, and she is Miss Volleyball 2019, and she is a straight A student and has never missed a day of school,” Mr. Scott Boone said.
Jussy (Tuscherer) Smith serves as Madalyn's role model and inspiration. Smith not only won Miss Volleyball and a state volleyball title when Madalyn served as a water girl, but Smith also has been Madalyn's personal trainer since middle school.
Madalyn plans to attend Dakota State University in Madison, S.D., to play volleyball and major in mathematics. She intends to be a high school math teacher and a volleyball coach.
"I have worked hard on quality assignments
while maintaining my presence in extracurriculars and athletics.
Persistence pays off in the end!” Groft said.
